IC
Name: Cal'Syee Neramani
Codename: Deathbird
Age: 35
Height: 5' 8"
Weight: 180 lbs
Hair Color: Deathbird, has black hair underneath the heavy purple helmet she often dons, or the plume of feathers that once grew on her head before she was a Horseman.
Eye Color: White, and lacking pupils.
Affiliation: Unaffiliated
Mutation: Deathbird is an alien (Shi'ar) and has various mutant abilities. Her metabolism is superior to that of a human's, giving her approximately a twenty times greater endurance level than a human being. Frequently able to work herself up into a berserker frenzy, Deathbird's equivalent adrenal system is capable of prolonging her endurance even beyond that of her normal mutant limits.
Her wing are 18 ft long, and enable her to fly like a bird, at a maximum speed of 63 miles per hour when she is within the Earth's atmosphere. Because of her alien metabolism, she can remain aloft for up to 6 hours before exhausting her body's fatigue poisons elimination ability (an additional 14 hours with a high-energy food supply) and somewhat less if she is carrying a load or exerting herself. She can carry up to 290 pounds, if she can grab the person with her feet, since her arms are used to fly. She can fly up to any height as long as she is able to breathe at that altitude. The fears in the dorsal and secondary areas of both wings each have very sharp, spur-like vanes, capable of inflicting light lacerations.
Deathbird also has talon-like fingernails of extraordinary tensile strength. She can use them to slice through wood, glass, and to score steel.
Appearance: Deathbird is a very well-built woman, her body shows signs of vigorous exercise and training. She's a warrior by nature; of course she's going to be in good shape. Like all Shi'ar, her skin is a milky alabaster tone. Deathbird, once again like all Shi'Ar, has a plume of feathers instead of a head of hair. She has wings with purple and blue feathers growing from her back, attached from armpit to wrist. The head atop her head resembles a plume of feathers and the frontal feathers are violet in color with the feathers closer to her scalp being completely black. Deathbird's eyes are completely white and she lacks a visible pupil. Surrounding her eyes are black lines that only enhance her treachery.
Deathbird has long talons for fingernails, and they are a deep purple. Her arms are rather muscular for a woman, a sign of the brutal strength she is capable of yielding. Deathbird's clothing tends to change from time to time. Now that she has been around Earthlings for a good while, she has begun to adopt a form of their clothing. She often walks around wearing human pants and shirts, but only when she knows many wont see her. Deathbird thinks that humans dress too 'soft' for her taste. She prefers her light, flexible armor, which often covers all of her body save for her wings, parts of her chest, her face and hands.
Personality: Vicious and Ruthless are two words that have once been applied to this Shi'ar. She is your friend when it suites her needs best, but if you get in her way, she'll cut you off as though you were a leech. Deathbird is not a genuinely caring woman, hence her codename. She tried to kill her sister for crying out loud, what makes you think she'd even want to play nice.
Who's the boss? Deathbird, of course. While others may aspire to leadership, Deathbird moves instinctively to the helm. She was born to assume command as surely as the top dog in the pack. Hers is a strong, forceful personality, more inherently powerful than any other. She can undertake huge responsibility without fear of failure. Sheer confidence or just arrogance? Call it how you see it. She wields power with great lust and desire, always wanting more. Deathbird is not the type of woman to back away from a fight. She competes with the supreme confidence of champions.
The Shi'ar woman operates best within a traditional power structure where everyone knows his or her place and the lines of authority are clear. She is royalty and she expects everyone to treat her as such. She also expects others in her charge to follow every rule she sets down. Deathbird doesn't like to play games. Ignorant followers lead to failure, so she must cut them down when she first spots it. She does what is necessary to get the job done.
Deathbird is neither squeamish nor fainthearted. She can function well and bravely in difficult and dangerous situations without being distracted by fear or horror. Her hatred for her sister ruling her the Shi'ar Empire has slowly began to dwindle. Deathbird doesn't really hate her, she just despises her siblings because they both had a chance to rule and she didn't.
History: Cal'Syee Neramani, despite her status as genetic throw-back and possessing natural wings and talons like the bird people the Shi'ar descended from, was the firstborn child of Shi'ar royalty. She would have become Empress of the Shi'ar Empire had her ferocious nature that earned her the name Deathbird not surfaced, resulting in her killing one of her sisters and her mother. For this crime, Deathbird was exiled from the Shi'ar Empire and her true name stricken from their history. Her brother D'Ken was named ruler in her place.
Finding herself on Earth, Deathbird worked for the international arms dealers known as A.I.M. and their leader, Modok. She also clashed several times with Carol Danvers, the original Ms Marvel. During one such battle with Ms Marvel, Deathbird proved to have at least some sort of moral code, as she helped Carol to secure a bridge with innocent bystanders, only to let it crash in on Ms Marvel when the humans were safe. Born royalty, Deathbird was most humiliated when she was defeated by Hawkeye, a mere human without superpowers. She even suffered the indignation of being kissed by him while she was trapped in a net.
From afar, Deathbird allied herself with the alien Brood and Lord Samédàr, a member of her sister Lilandra's council, to usurp the throne, which rightfully could have been hers. She arranged Lilandra's kidnapping, and also captured Professor X, mortally wounding Colossus in the process. When the X-Men later rescued their mentor and his lover, Deathbird recorded their genetic structures to show them to the Brood. Promising to turn their foes over as hosts for Brood eggs, she ensured the continued backing of the alien parasites.
Deathbird managed to subdue Lilandra and the X-Men with a stun-bomb, and delivered them all to the Brood. The way to Chandilar, the throne-world of the Shi'ar Empire, was now open to her. Even though Lilandra did not die on the Brood world, she was kept busy long enough until Deathbird had usurped the throne. As new Empress, even the Imperial Guard were loyal to her, although some - like the Guard's Praetor Gladiator - were not without their doubts.
Months later, the Starjammers - including their newest members Xavier and Lilandra - learned on a raided space transporter that Deathbird was searching for a mystical power called "Phalkon". Since the Starjammers beat her to the map with its location, Deathbird was forced to kidnap her sister Lilandra, but she underestimated her. Lilandra started a fight and would have killed Deathbird if the Starjammers hadn't teleported her away. As it turned out, the Phalkon was actually the Phoenix Force, and the Starjammers and Excalibur together defeated Deathbird and the whole Imperial Guard, including the two newest recruits White Noise and Blacklight who mysteriously referred to Deathbird as "mother". As word spread about Lilandra and the Starjammers, it inspired rebellions all over the Empire, keeping Deathbird busy.
Much later, Deathbird asked Lila Cheney to teleport the X-Men to Chandilar and, upon their arrival, she asked them to kill Professor Xavier. As she tried to explain why, the Starjammers and Deathbird's Imperial Guard arrived and clashed with the X-Men. The X-Men sided with their former allies the Starjammers, not knowing that they were secretly Warskrulls. Deathbird and the Guard were defeated, and Lilandra was placed once more on the throne. Through the Warskrull version of Xavier, they thought to have the Shi'ar Empress under mental control. The faux Xavier then tortured Deathbird by manipulating Gladiator into ripping her wings off. After the ruse was discovered and all the Warskrull impostors were exposed, Deathbird gave up the throne to Lilandra, for during her time as ruling Shi'ar Empress Deathbird had come to hate the responsibilities of maintaining the needs of the Empire.
During the crisis that came to be known as Operation: Galactic Storm, the Shi'ar Empire went to war with the Kree Empire. Surprisingly, Deathbird offered her assistance in this time of need and assassinated the Kree leaders Ael-Dann and Dar-Benn. On Hala, the Kree homeworld, Deathbird also aided Captain America. After the war was won thanks to the detonation of the Shi'ar Nega-Bomb, a device that killed 90% of the Kree population, Lilandra appointed Deathbird as viceroy of her Empire and ruler of Hala to reward her for assistance, and also to keep an eye on her. Deathbird was also made leader of the former Kree now Shi'ar Starforce.
On the eve of the official ceremony incorporating the Kree into the Empire, Lilandra had Xavier and some of the X-Men teleported to Hala, the Kree homeworld. By then, Deathbird's wings had regrown. When the X-Men uncovered a rebellion against the Shi'ar rule, Deathbird cleverly manipulated Lilandra into a position where she had to arrest the dissident's leader, although he had helped them defuse a sun-killer bomb. Through this tension between legality and morality, Deathbird drove a wedge between Lilandra and Xavier.
Deathbird departed, and was not seen again until the X-Men were recruited by the Shi'ar to stop the menace of a combined Brood/Phalanx invasion. After the invasion was repelled, Deathbird was charged with ensuring the X-Men returned home safely. Deathbird accompanied them on their voyage home, but she and Bishop were separated from the X-Men after an accident onboard their starship.
After several interstellar adventures, including one to an alternate Earth ruled by the Shi'ar, Deathbird betrayed Bishop and had him transported back to Earth. Deathbird herself had allied with Apocalypse, who in turn betrayed her and transformed her into his latest Horseman called War.
After the group known as the Twelve defeated Apocalypse, Deathbird returned to Shi'ar space where she later found herself on a Shi'ar star station. Driven mad by the cold and from oxygen deprivation, Deathbird killed the entire crew of the station, which drew the attention of Professor X and his team of mutant Skrulls named Cadre K. It was then that Bishop returned to this time period and crashed into the station. Deathbird found her former ally and one-time lover, but due to her maddened state quickly found herself in battle with him. During the course of the clash, the helmet of Deathbird's spacesuit was smashed open and, not wanting to be captured, she blew herself out an airlock into the cold void of space.
But for some strange reason, Deathbird did not die. It seemed as though greater forces had plans for this former villainess. Her body was teleported to Earth...to the home of the X-Men. Confused and dazed, Deathbird is searching out why she has come here.
Sample Post: Time is of the essence.
Deathbird did not have much of it left before she could feel her life being sucked from her lungs. She was unable to hold it in, unable to suck it back, unable to even scream. Then again, the Viceroy of the Shi'ar Empire did not scream. NEVER. That was blasphemy. A warrior of Cal'Syee's status could not be seen screaming like a child, not even in death...
Death? Was that what this was? All around the former villainess the stars reached out to her claiming her life. Or at least she thought so. She couldn't breathe in, couldn't breathe out. Every attempt brought a hot pain to her lungs and made her throat dry as the Sahara. Her body floated lifeless throughout the heavens; wings blowing about in the spatial winds. Her ivory eyes glanced at the coming of a bright comet. As she watched her mind drifted upon the man she had just left. Lucas Bishop...did she love him? Ever? Did he even love her? How could he? Sure they had spent years together in another universe, but she was evil...had always been...
The coming comet seemed to be aiming right toward her, screeching her name as it soared through the heavens. Whatever it was, it was definitely on a mission. The closer it came near Deathbird, the more she could pick out the form. It was of someone she had seen before, a faceless being now, but the aura was that of someone the woman had come across. As the comet-now-turned-being approached Deathbird, air began to fill her lungs once again. The agony and anxiety that had overwhelmed her mind and body in death released her, and her body felt light as a feather.
Slowly drowsiness overwhelmed the Viceroy and her body drifted off into slumber. The fire from the star-like being enveloped her body, consuming death and fear. When Deathbird would wake, she would find herself in a familiar place with another chance...
